We do not age evenly. My skin looks younger than I am, but my eyes look older to an ophthalmologist. We are not given a choice on this, but if we were, I would trade my young appearance for young eyesight. In other words, I would rather see well than look good.
This picture was taken about a year ago when I was 65. I have macular degeneration and a recent scare sent me to an ophthalmologist who suggested I make an appointment with a retina surgeon, just in case.
He also commented that I looked younger than my “stated age.” It sounded as if he felt I was lying about my age. I gave him my usual response: I picked my ancestors very carefully.
