We don’t give our grandchildren gifts for occasions. Instead we buy them something on our annual visit. Originally it involved a trip to the toy store, but as they got older, the goal was the bookstore. The bookstore allowed us to view the intelligent strategy of our grandson. His parents were pushing him towards a season of West Wing but he wanted a season of Stargate, because he thought his parents were more likely to buy West Wing for themselves. This year it was surprisingly simple. We bought our grandson two computer games he wanted. These were bought on the Internet.
I don’t know if this is good or bad, but it certainly is simpler.
