Operation Desert Swap

March 30, 2010

I am a participant in Operation Desert Swap, a program to have packages and letters sent to soldiers in Iraq. Each soldier was sent a book by a self-published author, a monthly letter, and a care package. The books would be swapped among the soldiers. I sent some items with the book, and two additional care packages. I have never heard from “my” soldier.

I wrote my March letter today. I have no idea if he appreciates the letters. I don’t know if he received the care packages or the book. It is hard for me to continue without any feedback.

I made a commitment and I plan to keep it. But I am finding myself increasingly reluctant to send anything to someone who may not even be receiving them. I should not need it, because I am thanking him for his service, but a thank you note would be nice.
